At the 16th General Conference of the Association of African Universities in Rabat, Morocco, the All-Africa Students Union (AASU) proudly presented its student-led report:
“Rethinking Higher Education: Pathways for Innovation and Sustainability.”
The report, officially submitted under the conference’s subtheme on Climate Change, Green Energy, and the Blue Economy, was presented on behalf of AASU by Emmanuel Kofi Abotsi, Policy Advisor (Youth Governance & Leadership).
This groundbreaking document proposes bold, practical recommendations for how African Higher Education Institutions can:
Close the green skills gap
Institutionalize student-led sustainability through Green Offices
Integrate interdisciplinary climate education across curricula
Support student innovation, leadership, and agency in driving the green transition
Drawn from extensive student consultations across Africa and international engagements, the report reflects the unified voice of African students demanding a higher education system that is future-focused, inclusive, and climate-resilient.
We extend our gratitude to the Association of African Universities (@AAU) for this platform and we look forward to working with HEIs and partners across the continent to turn these recommendations into action.
